Code of Conduct

Everyone Deserves a Safe Conference

BSides Tampa exists because of our community. We take that seriously.

Anti-Harassment Policy

BSides Tampa is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, or technology choices.

We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, social media, and other online spaces associated with the event.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, or technology choices; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention.

Expected Behavior

All participants, including speakers, sponsors, Krewe members, and organizers, are expected to:

  • Treat all participants with respect and consideration
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and fellow participants
  • Communicate openly and thoughtfully. Critique ideas, not people
  • Respect the boundaries and personal space of others
  • Alert a Krewe member if you witness or experience any violations
  • Comply immediately if asked to stop any inappropriate behavior

Reporting an Incident

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a Krewe member immediately. Krewe members can be identified by their badges and shirts.

When reporting, please provide as much detail as possible: what happened, when and where it occurred, and any witnesses. All reports will be handled with discretion and confidentiality.

You can also reach our team by email at conduct@bsidestampa.net before, during, or after the event.

Enforcement

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including:

  • A verbal warning and request to stop the behavior
  • Expulsion from the conference with no refund
  • Prohibition from future BSides Tampa events
  • Reporting to local law enforcement if appropriate

Scope

This code of conduct applies to all BSides Tampa spaces, including the conference venue, training rooms, villages, social events, after-parties, and online spaces such as Discord, social media, and any other channels associated with the event.

This policy applies equally to all participants: speakers, sponsors, Krewe members, organizers, and everyone in between. Nobody is exempt.
